  • Start the engine, turn on the headlights and keep your car in park.
  • Press the accelerator and examine the headlights to see if they change in brightness.
  • If the brightness increases when you press the accelerator, the battery current isn’t strong enough to support the engine idling and your light levels.
  • If the lights are brightening, bring your Toyota to Groove Toyota to have your vehicle properly assessed.

Groove Toyota’s Service Center recommends that you get your battery tested at least twice per year. More extreme climates can cause battery fluctuations and drainage which is why it is recommended to check it more frequently during winter.

  1. Make sure each vehicle's engine is turned off and that they’re in park.
  2. Attach red positive clips to the positive terminal (+) on each car’s battery.
  3. Attach the black negative clip to the negative post (-) on your battery.
  4. Take the remaining black negative clamp and attach it to a metal surface on your car.
  5. Try starting your vehicle a few times.
  6. If it starts, make sure to drive around for at least 15 minutes.
  7. If your vehicle does not hold a charge after being jump-started, contact us to get a new battery
